'It was unfortunate to end on a tough note' - Jonathan Rea anaylses his Sunday at Misano

Gold & Goose

Jonathan Rea was left 'frustrated' after crashing out of the final race of the weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

The Emilia-Romagna World Superbike Round saw Jonathan Rea take a step forward on the Yamaha R1 as he claimed his best result of the year in the Superpole Race.

However, in the final race of the weekend, while running inside the top ten, Rea crashed out at Turn One in an incident that he has described as 'strange'.

The six-time World Superbike Champion still finds himself in 18th in the standings at the halfway point of the 2025 season.

"The Superpole Race allowed me to start on row three for the long race," Rea said to WorldSBK.com.

"I got some good track position at Turn One when there was the carnage with Bulega and Bassani. Everything opened up for me, and I found myself in sixth or seventh, really.

"My race stayed in that position. Sam Lowes was coming strong at the end of the race, and I could not stay with him.

"The bike felt good in the cooler conditions. I used the SCQ tyre, and it lasted the whole race. It felt good.

"So, my feeling going into the long race was a positive one, and my starts on the Yamaha have been incredible recently.

"I put myself facing down the left side of the track, thinking I could go around the outside of the group in front. But I got squeezed wide at Turn One, and then it bottlenecked at Turn Two, so the track position I had gained, I then lost.

"From that point, I was in a group; I had lost touch with the group that had formed in front. Lecuona was just getting away from me a little bit, but I was clearing the guys behind.

"Going into Turn One, the rear was bouncing around like usual, but when it picked up and landed, I lost the front straight away.

"I was nowhere near the apex; it was a strange one. It was frustrating because the trajectory of the weekend had been a really positive one.

"From missing Free Practice One, to finishing seventh in the Superpole Race, it was unfortunate to end on a tough note."
