'We need to keep going in this direction' - Pedro Acosta reacts to his second Grand Prix podium of the year

Gold & Goose

Pedro Acosta was back on the MotoGP podium after finishing in second place at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

On the opening day of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Pedro Acosta topped the timesheets in the Friday afternoon Practice session.

However, after his promising Friday, it all went downhill for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider. The Spaniard crashed during Qualifying and then crashed out of the Sprint Race at the Balaton Park Circuit.

But Acosta was able to bounce back to second place on Sunday, and sang his mechanics' praises after the Grand Prix.

"I mean, everything was feeling quite easy on Friday," Acosta told MotoGP.com after standing on the podium in Hungary.

"Then, after qualifying, everything was becoming worse and worse until Sunday morning Warm-Up. Anyway, thank you to my mechanics for rebuilding both bikes last night until one or two AM.

"They are the ones that saved my weekend, because my guys put all their efforts into the bike.

"I am super happy, we did a very solid race, we made a solid progression. We need to not expect this, but keep going in this direction."

In the opening lap of the Grand Prix, Acosta was able to avoid the crashed Enea Bastianini, who slid across the track in front of the Spaniard and Luca Marini.

"Thankfully, I was quite slow through Turn 10 and 11," he explained.

"I was able to see that Enea [Bastianini] had crashed. Marini, who was closer, went to the outside, and I went to the inside.

"Thankfully, I got through cleanly, it was not easy, especially with all the gravel around, and Enea in the middle."

After struggling to pass Jorge Martin in the MotoGP Sprint Race on Saturday, Acosta was pleased that he was able to make multiple passes in the Grand Prix.

"I was struggling to pass Jorge [Martin] yesterday [Saturday], but we have to be happy," Acosta stated.

"We improved a lot for today [Sunday], compared to how difficult it was yesterday [Saturday]."
