Ahead of the penultimate round of the 2025 World Superbike Championship, Danilo Petrucci suffered a freak injury.

Despite suffering a freak injury ahead of the Estoril World Superbike Round, Danilo Petrucci will attempt to ride at the Portuguese circuit this weekend.

"Last Friday, while I was training at the gym with a rubber band, I hit a wall with my right hand," Petrucci explained in an Instagram post ahead of this weekend's races.

"The one where in 3 metacarpals I have 20 screws and 2 plates. The fourth metacarpus, where I have 3 screws, it’s broken. I will try to race here in Estoril in Portugal."

This weekend could be crucial for Petrucci, who is in the hunt for third place in the 2025 World Superbike Championship. The Italian has seen steady progression in World Superbikes, as he finished seventh and fifth in the standings in 2023 and 2024.

Now the 34-year-old is on track to achieve his best finish in the World Superbike Championship for the Barni Spark Racing Team.

Throughout the 2025 season, Petrucci has failed to win a race, but has featured on seven podiums and sits on 284 points, and is 30 points ahead of his compatriot, Andrea Locatelli.

After three years with the Barni Spark Racing Team, Petrucci will leave the Italian squad at the end of the 2025 season.

Next year, Petrucci will begin a new chapter in his career as he will switch to the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. The former Grand Prix winner will be joined by fellow Grand Prix winner Miguel Oliveira in the factory BMW squad.
