Danilo Petrucci will not complete the remainder of the penultimate round of the 2025 World Superbike Championship after being declared unfit.
After Free Practice One at the Estoril World Superbike Round, Danilo Petrucci has been declared unfit and ruled out of the remainder of the weekend.
The Italian took part in the opening Practice session of the weekend at the Portuguese circuit, but already knew he would be reassessed by the medical team after Free Practice One to decide if he could continue.
Petrucci injured his right hand in a freak training incident last week, and the worsening symptoms from this injury have seen him declared unfit for the three races at the Portuguese circuit.
It was an encouraging Free Practice One for Petrucci, as he ended the first session of the weekend in ninth place on the timesheets. But the medical team had the final say and has sidelined the 34-year-old for what could be a crucial weekend.
Petrucci and the Barni Spark Racing Team have been fighting for third in the World Superbike Championship with Andrea Locatelli and Alvaro Bautista.
The independent Ducati rider is only 30 points ahead of Locatelli, and 31 points above Bautista. With 124 points on offer across the final two World Superbike Rounds, Petrucci could be at risk of losing third in the 2025 Championship.
At the conclusion of the 2025 season, Petrucci will end his three-year stint with the Barni Spark Racing Team and will join the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team.
