Sam Lowes will not participate in the rest of the Estoril World Superbike Round after being declared unfit.

After participating in Free Practice One, Two, and Three, Sam Lowes has been declared unfit for the remainder of the Estoril World Superbike Round.

The British rider arrived at the round nursing a chest contusion and had a promising start to the weekend, as well as finishing second in Free Practice Three on Saturday morning.

However, after being checked by the World Superbike medical team after Free Practice Three, Lowes has been declared unfit due to worsening symptoms.

Lowes arrived at Estoril in the fight for the Independent Riders Championship with Danilo Petrucci. However, with both riders now out for the weekend, Petrucci has been crowned the Independent Riders Champion.

Sam could also lose out to his brother Alex Lowes in the 2025 World Superbike Championship, as the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team rider is 15 points behind his brother in the standings.

The ELF Marc VDS Racing Team rider has a week to recover before the 2025 World Superbike season finale next weekend at Jerez. Next weekend will mark the end of Lowes' second season in the World Superbike Championship.

Lowes has been competitive throughout his second season on the Ducati Panigale V4 R, and has stood on five podiums throughout the ten rounds he has competed in.

He will remain in the World Superbike Championship for a third season, as he re-signed with the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team earlier this season for a third year in the class with the squad.
