Toprak Razgatlioglu and Phil Marron's seven years together ended with a third World Superbike Championship.
In 2019, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Phil Marron began their partnership in the World Superbike Championship as Marron began working as Razgatlioglu's Crew Chief.
The duo started at the Puccetti Racing - Kawasaki squad, before moving to the Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team in 2020, and won their first World Superbike title together in 2021 with the R1.
After losing out on the title in 2022 and 2023 with Yamaha, Razgatlioglu made the bold decision to sign for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team in 2024. Marron decided to follow Razgatlioglu to the German manufacturer.
In the two seasons that Marron and Razgatlioglu spent at BMW, they were able to win 39 races and two World Superbike Championships in 2024 and 2025.
When asked about his part in Razgatlioglu's title wins with Yamaha and BMW, his long-term Crew Chief insisted he has been 'a small part' of his rider's success.
"I am proud, but we play a small part. The guys on the bike deserve the credit," Marron told WorldSBK.com after the final race of the season.
"We are just in the background, giving them the tools to do the job. So, I am privileged to be along for the ride."
'It has been a joy to watch him progress...'
Marron reflected on his time with Razgatlioglu and looked back to 2019, when he was unable to string a set of consistent laps together, and has been able to watch him turn into 'an absolute monster'.
He said, "Seven seasons together with this little Turkish kid, at the start, he could not string more than four laps together, he could not qualify, he could not ride in the wet. Now he has evolved into an absolute monster.
"Honestly, like I said before, I am just privileged to be along for the ride. It has been a joy to watch him progress."
When Razgatlioglu decided to move from Yamaha to BMW, it shocked the World Superbike paddock. However, he proved everyone wrong with his two titles with the German manufacturer, which has left Marron 'speechless'.
"It is pretty special, he has rewritten the history books," he stated.
"Last year was BMW's first World Championship in 101 seasons or 100 seasons, and he has just backed it up. So, back-to-back World Championships, I am pretty speechless."
