Results from the opening day of the Portimao WorldSBK test on 28-29 January 2026.
Garrett Gerloff topped the times on another day of mixed conditions. The American rode with two bikes on day one in Portimao, one a 2025 ZX-10RR and one the updated 2026 version. After Jerez, Gerloff spoke of a need to better understand the difference between the old bike and the new one in terms of the aerodynamics, because the updated bike's fairing features winglets for the first time on a production Kawasaki.
Alberto Surra and Philipp Oettl (on a Panigale V2) were the only other riders to lap under 1:50. The race lap record for WorldSBK at Portimao is a 1:39.441, for reference.
A couple of riders from the BSB paddock were present in Portimao, too, including Luke Stapleford on a Panigale V2 and Tommy Bridewell on the Superbike Advocates Panigale V4 R. Road racer Paul Jordan also rode, aboard a Panigale V2 for Jackson Racing.
