Moto-Breakers Kawasaki’s Danny Webb is easing himself into the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 class – after breaking his collarbone in four places a few weeks ago.
This is the former Moto3 rider’s first venture on what he calls – ‘the big bikes’ and will be making his race debut in the Stock 1000 class next week at Oulton Park. He missed the opening round at Brands Hatch because he was recovering from an operation on his shoulder.
Webb did go out and complete a few rotations during the test at the Oulton Park circuit today, but was not focusing on lap times, as he just wanted to feel comfortable on the bike, which was not easy as he’s still in pain.
“We are getting there, but I broke my collarbone in four places a few weeks ago so I have come to Oulton to get a bit of a run out to see if my shoulder is alright and to get a bit of time out on the bike before next weekend and the North West,” said Webb, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.
“I am getting there, each session I am feeling comfortable with the big bike. My shoulder is still weak so I am trying to do the minimum amount of laps possible – which is not ideal, but we have another week to go.
“I missed Brands because I only had my shoulder plated last week, luckily I missed it because my team-mate Nikki Coates hurt himself so I was at the hospital with him. I just need time on the bike. I am not looking at lap times – I wouldn’t care if I was last today as I just need time on the bike.”
This year Webb will be making his debut in the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT – something that he always wanted to do, and he can’t wait.
“I have always wanted to do the roads and I feel it is the right time to do it. I’m riding Ryan Farquhar’s bike at the TT. I want to have fun and go home safe. For the North West it is a bit easier to learn the track, so the year after I will be looking for some results.
“For BSB it is the same – this year is about getting to learn the 1000 and next year will be the time where I can be more competitive. It is more relaxed than the MotoGP paddock and nicer. The team here is good fun and there’s not any pressure and its great getting the enjoyment back in motorbike racing too.”
