British Supersport contender Luke Mossey is eyeing up a move to the Moto2 World Championship for 2015, onboard a Brough Superior badged Moto2 machine. The Cambridgeshire rider was in Los Angeles at the Fontana Raceway last week testing the all carbon-fibre prototype.
He plans to test it once again in a fortnights time at the Spanish circuit of Cartagena, where he will compare the performance of the bike alongside Spanish Championship competitors.
Mossey, who has previous World Championship experience wildcarding at the British Grand Prix in 2009, admits the plans are in the ‘early days’ but he is looking forward to the possible prospect of competing in the World Championship.
“The team’s plan is go to the Moto2 World Championship next year. Obviously, the main issue at the moment is finance. The team have a few contacts so hopefully we can get some strong backing, but it’s all early days at the moment. The season has barely started, although it’s looking very positive. It could be a good thing for next year, especially for me to go into the World Championship,” said Mossey, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the Oulton Park circuit.
“We were at a track called Fontana Raceway. It was a NASCAR oval with a track in the car park. It wasn’t great but it was good to finally get a chance to ride a Moto2 bike. My dad knows the former team manager of the AMA Superbike Factory Honda team. We’ve been in contact for a while and he invited me over to get my thoughts on the bike. We’re going to Cartagena in Spain in a fortnights time so it’ll be good to compare it against the Spanish Championship Moto2 guys. We can then judge how competitive the bike is.
“The Triumph is quicker but the chassis of this Moto2 bike is so much lighter. Also, the slick tyres make such a difference. We had the Dunlop slicks from the Austin GP. The tyres really are so much better. You can get out of the corner and just whack on the gas without any fear. The Pirellis in the Supersport have a lot more give compared to the Dunlops, which are incredibly stiff, they grip so well.”
