James Folkard will join the Intek Adhesives/SGR Racing team on its Superstock 600 machine at the Donington Park round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship this week.
Following the departure of rider Jason Vernon at Oulton Park, team owner Steve Kinghorn has been inundated with requests from riders keen to join the squad. And as he remains in talks with potential pilots for the remainder of the season, he has decided to run former Spanish Moto2 rider James Folkard at the next event, which runs as part of the UK round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park.
Folkard, of Liverpool, who is currently riding a Supertwin in the Thundersport championship, will join the team for the Donington round only which is where he raced most recently in Thundersport. And he is keen to get his first taste of the Intek Adhesives/SGR Racing Yamaha R6 this weekend.
“I’ve known Steve for a while and the opportunity came up to ride the bike at the next round and I jumped at it. Donington is actually the last track I rode at and it went well so I’m hoping I can have another great ride there,” said Folkard.
“I’m very much looking forward to it, obviously I’ve never ridden this bike before and it’s a tough class, but I think if I can get a good qualifying position then I should be able to fight my way through. Ideally I want a top 10 finish, that would be mega but I don’t want to put any pressure on myself. I’m just going to go out there, ride the bike and do the best job I can. I can’t wait.”
