Brands BSB: Seeley out-paces Gowland to snatch Supersport win

MarTrain Yamaha’s Alastair Seeley took the victory in what was an emphatic battle between Smiths Triumph’s Graeme Gowland in the Motorpoint British Supersport sprint race at Brands Hatch – bagging his second win this year.

Acumen’s Luke Jones had a superb start from the third row of the grid, to get right up the sharp end to fight for the podium. He managed to stay on his bike to grab third, and also set the fastest lap of the race – meaning he starts from pole tomorrow.

At the start it was Seeley who got the hole-shot from the Smith Triumph pairing of Graeme Gowland and Billy McConnell, with Dixon falling back down the field after a slow start. The Northern Irishman pushed on ahead, but couldn’t shake off the pair.

Then a lap later Gowland went into the lead after a move at Sheene Curve, but Seeley soon fought back. The Allendale rider had his Australian counterpart breathing down his neck, and McConnell decided to make a move on Gowland, but ended up going wide and low-sided going into Druids – ending his chance of a race win.

By lap four it turned into a three-way battle for third, between Seeley, Gowland and Jones. The Hereford based rider soon fell off the pace, and wasn’t able to challenge for the victory, but did enough to hold off Dixon to take the final step of the podium – with Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford rounding up the top five.

But on the last lap things started to heat up between Seeley and Gowland. The battling duo were neck and neck with their bikes touching going into Druids, but in the end it was Seeley who took the spoils from the Northerner.

Team Traction Control’s James Rispoli, Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie, and Luke Hedger completed the top ten. It was also the first race back for the Gearlink Kawasaki rider after breaking his wrist a few rounds ago.
