Tsingtao’s Danny Buchan made it four wins out of five during the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race at his home round of Brands Hatch – but had to contend with charges from Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran and Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson.
It was O’Halloran who got the hole-shot, but that was not to last as Buchan edged ahead, on only the first lap, with Jackson closing in on the pair. The current championship leader quickly set the pace, and smashed the lap record by nearly a second with a 1’27.680.
But Jackson was on a roll and on lap 12 went into the lead after making a move on Druids, but on the penultimate lap on the Cooper Straight Buchan took back first, to head the field once again.
On the final lap the leading trio pulled away from Kennaugh and Backlund and a fight ensued between the provisional podium winners. O’Halloran and Jackson were neck and neck and the young BMW rider went wide at Druids allowing O’Halloran to go into second at the flag.
But Buchan had a big moment going into the final corner and somehow managed to stay on the bike without high-siding to storm to his fourth victory this year. Kennaugh and Backlund completed the top five, with MWR Kawasaki’s James Egan rounding off the top ten.
