Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson took his debut Pirelli National Superstock 1000 in spectacular style, fighting off championship leader Danny Buchan at the last corner on the final lap.
Tsingtao Kawasaki’s Buchan took the holeshot from the front row of the grid but had to succumb the lead to Australian Jason O’Halloran as a six rider battle for the win ensued.
Swede Filip Backlund, aboard his SMT Kawasaki, had his turn at leading at the half race stage but was shuffled backwards as Honda Racing’s O’Halloran came storming through.
On the last lap O’Halloran lead but as the leading group exited Church on the final lap, the Wollongong rider got sideways, with smoke puffing from the rear end of his Honda. This allowed Buchan and Jackson to move through on the brakes, with Buchan holding the inside line.
The win looked to Buchan’s, before Jackson let off the brakes and rolled around the outside of Buchan, handing him the inside line for the following left and therefore his debut win.
O’Halloran held on to third place but drops 38 points back behind Buchan, who is yet to finish outside of the top two all season. Backlund clinched fourth, ahead of Geordie Joe Burns and Mancunian Adam Jenkinson.
Gavin Hunt clinched seventh after reigning champ Hudson Kennaugh retired with an electrical fault. Rounding out the top ten was Michael Robertson, Josh Day and South African James Egan.
