Donington BSB: Stapleford tops Supersport free practice

Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford ended the Motorpoint British Supersport free practice sessions as the quickest rider. On his penultimate rotation he went under the lap record by three tenths of a second.

Just 0.078s behind Stapleford was his teammate, Luke Mossey. The Cambridge rider also went under the lap record, but more impressively, the Triumph duo were just half a second outside of Kenan Sofuoglu’s Donington World Supersport pole.

Smiths Triumph’s Graeme Gowland leaped up to third place with his last lap of the session, jumping ahead of Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie. Gowland was sixth tenths behind the pace setter, Mackenzie by three quarters of a second.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger rounded out the session in fifth, as the reigning Superstock 600 champion continues to progress in his debut Supersport season. Cadwell Park race winner Glenn Irwin is a tenth of a second back in sixth.

Mar-Train Yamaha’s Alastair Seeley was seventh quickest. The Northern Irishman has slipped backwards in the championship chase, now 46 points behind Billy McConnell, after suffering with injured ribs over the past two rounds.

Acumen Triumph’s Luke Jones is 1.1 seconds adrift of Stapleford in eighth place with the top ten being rounded out by championship leader McConnell and Anvil Hire TAG Triumph’s Sam Hornsey.
