FFX Yamaha’s Andy Reid battled through to his fifth Pirelli National Superstock 600 victory of the season and his second on the bounce. The Northern Irish tattoo artist is now just three points behind Kyle Ryde in the championship.
Reid took the holeshot from the front row but he didn’t hold on to the lead for long, with pole setter Malachi Mitchell-Thomas diving past Ryde and then Reid down the Craner Curves in spectacular style. The former Junior Supermoto champion was participating in the Manx GP last weekend but was able to adapt back to circuit racing.
Mitchell-Thomas was quickly pushed backwards to fourth, however, after a mistake on the back part of the circuit. It left Nick Anderson in the lead but Andy Reid dived under the inside at the Foggy Esses before pulling away to victory.
Ryde held second on the last lap but Anderson, from a long way back, dived under the inside on the brakes into the Melbourne Loop to clinch his fourth podium of the year. Ryde took the chequered flag in third, meaning his championship lead was cut from twelve points to three.
Be Wiser Kawasaki’s Joe Collier fought off Ross Twyman and Aussie Levi Day for fourth place. Returning Spaniard Aleix Aulestia clinched seventh ahead of Trik Moto Kawasaki’s Mason Law. Rounding out the top ten was reigning Motostar Champion Joe Francis and Dutchman Kevin Van Leuven.
