Padgett's Honda rider Jakub Smrz only set eyes on the Cadwell park circuit two days ago and since then has been trying to get some valuable lap time ready for the main MCE British Superbike races this afternoon.
The former World Superbike rider continued to improve on his times throughout the weekend, and even qualified fifteenth on the starting grid, out pacing more experienced riders. The racer was even contemplating doing some sessions in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 class to get more time out on the Lincolnshire track, but because of the wet conditions over the weekend he decided to stick with the BSB practice outings instead. Smrz’s aim is simple; he just wants to come away with some points.
“I felt that I improved in qualifying, and finished fifteenth on the grid, and everyone said that my lap time is pretty good for my first time here,” said Smrz, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the circuit.
“We had no testing here so Saturday was my first session. I like this track and I just need more lap time to build my confidence on a track I have never been on before. Realistically I want to do as many laps in the race and learn from the other riders and try and get as many laps as possible.
“I was going to go in some of the Superstock 1000 sessions, to get that extra track time but because of the changeable weather conditions I didn’t go out. It would have been a waste of time and money and our team is not the richest in the paddock but we are making good progress.”
