Leon Haslam is still in the British Superbike title fight, but needs a problem-free final round to retain third in the Championship.
Across the first two races at Oulton Park, Leon Haslam had been mugged on the final lap of the race while on his way to taking his second victory of the season.
However, the 2018 British Superbike Champion finished second in Race One and Race Two. With a point to prove, Haslam was determined to take victory in Race Three.
The 42-year-old was in second on the final lap and attempted to overtake Scott Redding for the lead. But he suffered an issue when changing gears and ran wide, but was able to hold onto a podium place.
"Obviously, I felt quite good, Brad’s pace was evident in Race Two, so I got behind the two Yamahas and felt quite good," Haslam told British Superbikes after featuring on his third podium of the weekend.
"We made a few passes, and when I got into the lead, I probably slowed it up too much and set a steady rhythm. I thought it was just Brad [Ray] and Kyle [Ryde], but then the next thing, Scott [Redding] came past.
"We had to up the game again, and we went a bit hard towards the end, and I thought I had lined it up for the last corner. But as soon as I clicked the gear, it just jumped out of gear on me. So, I was lucky that I managed to switch to the left, but obviously, I lost second place in the process.
"I am a little disappointed with the last corner and the last lap again. But it was an amazing battle, and I was there fighting for the win again."
Haslam is still in the fight for the 2025 British Superbike Championship, but he is 101 points behind the Championship leader, Kyle Ryde. This time at Brands Hatch, Haslam is hoping for better luck with no mechanical gremlins for the season finale.
"We did not have the best of Brands Hatches last time," he admitted.
"I am looking to go there with no gremlins as such; we had a few little mechanicals at the last one. So, for me to go there and finish the season on a high and retain third.
"Obviously, mathematically it is possible, but for me, we had a tough middle part of the season, and in the last two rounds, we have scored the most points out of everyone. So, the consistency is there, and I am battling for wins, which is where I want to be."
