Christian Iddon is ready to 'hammer in top results' throughout the 2024 British Superbike Showdown.
Coming into the 2024 British Superbike (BSB) Showdown Christian Iddon is fourth in the Championship standings. The Oxford Products Racing Ducati Team are coming off the back of two challenging weekends at Thruxton and Cadwell Park.
However, with three rounds to go anything is possible for Iddon. The first Showdown round this weekend is at Oulton Park a circuit Iddon has had success in throughout the 2024 season. Earlier on in the year, Iddon had three podium finishes at Oulton Park, with two-second places and a third place.
Ahead of the Showdown Iddon said: “It’s time for the Showdown part of the year and where things really ramp up. We are coming off the back of two really difficult rounds, one we half anticipated but hoped wouldn’t be the case and the other we didn’t anticipate and it was actually harder than Thruxton! Cadwell Park was definitely the worst round of the year for me so far, however at least we left in a better shape than we started. The biggest hit for us was obviously that Tommy and Kyle, who are one-two in the championship, had stellar weekends and we really didn’t, and it is the first time this year where the gap has jumped.
“Even on our tough weekends previously we have managed to keep a good hold on the top of the standings, so it was a real kick. But I have no doubt in mine, the team’s abilities and the bike’s capabilities so we go back to Oulton Park with the increased points at a track that was good to us at the start of the year with three podiums, so anything less will really be a disappointment I have to admit.
“We need to hammer in those top results basically we got into the position we were in by being really consistent which is a good thing but now we need to keep that consistency and turn it up a notch. That is easier said than done as we are up against some absolutely class opposition, but the last three rounds we have already been to all of the tracks, and I have had good rounds, aside from it being hard at Donington with the crash.
“But there is no reason why we can’t be up there and fight for the championship and that is what we are aiming to do. It is a big gap to close but now the points are bigger so clearly it will be quicker for us to close if we can stay in front of those boys.”
