Assen BSB: Lahti takes maiden win in epic Supersport clash

HRP Suzuki’s Eemeli Lahti battled to his first Dickies British Supersport win as Appleyard Macadam Racing’s Keith Farmer controversially appeared to wrap up the championship, but was then given a penalty after a crash involving Ben Currie.

There was a five ride dash for the win, with everyone getting a go at leading throughout the 15 lap event. Five was then reduced to four as Tempus MV Agusta’s Jack Kennedy was forced to retire with a handful of laps left.

The drama began on the final lap, with Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Currie at the front. The quartet flicked left into Strubben and Farmer dived eractically under Currie, colliding with the Aussie and causing him to crash out.

Lathe happily moved beneath the pair of them to the front and wasn’t to be bettered, wrapping off a brilliant performance after sitting more than two seconds off of the leaders during the early stages of the race.

Farmer came across the line in second but that move and the result is currently under investigation with both Farmer and Currie being summoned to the headmasters study once racing action comes to close here at Assen.

Andrew Irwin took the final spot on the podium but could still be in the fight for the championship depending on the result of the investigation.

Aero Legend’s Tom Ward had his best ride of the year to fourth place, bettering Jamie Perrin and David Allingham on the chase to the chequered flag.

Appleyard Macadam’s Luke Jones ended an impressive comeback weekend with seventh place, ahead of Matt Truelove. Rounding out the top ten were Kurt Wigley and Tommy Philp.

Further update at 17:00pm -  regarding Dickies British Supersport judicial process (K Farmer and B Currie) - no appeal lodged.

UPDATE: Race Direction info: Dickies BSS K. Farmer penalised with a time penalty of 60 Secs - causing a collision. Appeal period expires 1745 LT.
