Assen BSB: Seeley steals Supersport victory

Alastair Seeley stole victory from Jack Kennedy by a fairing in today's Dickies British Supersport sprint race as a penalty-hit Ben Currie was knocked off the podium.

While Seeley and Kennedy were embroiled in a race-long scrap from which they only broke free in the closing laps, Currie's hopes of rostrum points were tossed out the window when he cut the chicane and handed a 2.3s time penalty.

Currie looked to have the strongest launch as he got a lightning start on his Gearlink Kawasaki, but EHA Racing Yamaha's Seeley dove up the inside heading into the first corner and took the lead as Kennedy soon found his way to second.

But the two title fighters put more fuel on the fire as Currie bumped Kennedy on lap two heading through the Ramshoek before the Aussie nabbed the advantage to move up just behind Seeley.

The leading trio was soon joined by James Rispoli and Jamie Perrin, but it was all change heading onto lap five as Kennedy was shuffled back to fifth while Currie grabbed the lead from Seeley, but the Wee Wizard wasn't hanging back long and just a few corners later he had the lead back.

But Integro Yamaha's Kennedy wasn't finished either and he hit the front once more as the leaders crossed the half-way mark, with Seeley, Currie and Everquip Racing's Rispoli making a four-horse race.

Despite Kennedy's last-ditch attempts, he couldn't quite squeeze past Seeley and had to settle for second just 0.052s off victory.

It was disaster for Currie, however, when his vital third place points went out the window as he was slapped with a 2.3s penalty for running straight on at the Geert Timmer Bocht chicane earlier in the race.

Despite Rispoli cutting the same chicane on the final lap, the American wasn't handed a penalty and nipped the final rostrum spot by 0.051s.

Mike Brouwers and Richard Kerr were among the penalty-stricken riders who cut the chicane.
