Gearlink Kawasaki's Glenn Irwin stormed to his first Motorpoint British Supersport pole position earlier this afternoon and he'll be looking to step on to the podium for the first time ever when the lights go out for the first race of the year.
The Carrickfergus rider is confident of more pace in the wet too after complaining off running into traffic during his pole position lap. He is hoping a change in suspension and tyre pressure will also help him secure victory.
"I've got a really good feel with the Gearlink Kawasaki. When people pulled to within a tenth of me, I was able to respond straight away and go quicker. In my fastest lap I actually got blocked off, so I know I've got even more pace in the wet," said Irwin, speaking from a drenched Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
"Hopefully the weather stays as it is then I'm confident I can challenge for my first podium. This is my first pole as well, so it's all a little mad. The team have put so much fair in me after a disappointing season last year so I'd love to repay them with a strong result this afternoon."
