MarTrain Yamaha’s Alastair Seeley snatched his second Motorpoint British Supersport victory of the weekend at the Brands Hatch GP circuit, and both times was able to hold off attacks from Smith Triumph’s Graeme Gowland.
The maximum points haul now puts Seeley second in the overall championship standings, one point ahead of Gowland, who slips down to third. Acumen’s Luke Jones completed the podium, after finishing in third.
At first it was Gowland got the hole-shot ahead of Jones, only for the Hereford rider to take the lead for the first time going into Paddock Hill Bend on lap two. But Seeley was not too far behind and after a poor start made his way up to third, but soon found himself in the lead going into the 7th lap of 18.
With ten laps remaining Gowland wasn’t giving up on the chase on the wee wizard of Carrickfergus - with Jones in tow. The leading trio then had a one second advantage over Dixon and the battling threesome pushed on ahead.
But on lap 12 MJJ Motorsport’s Josh Corner was battling for 14th but crashed at Clark Curve and was taken to the medical centre.
On the penultimate lap Seeley and Gowland pulled away from Jones, but the Allendale racer was still trying to get the win, and on the final lap tried to overtake at Paddock Hill bend, Stirlings and at Druids - but nothing stuck, and Seeley went on to take the victory.
Appleyard Yamaha’s Jake Dixon and Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford rounded off the top five. Smiths Triumphs Billy McConnell still heads the championship, but could only manage sixth today.
T3 Racing’s Alex Olsen was the victor in the Evo class and out-paced Collisions Racing’s Danny Webb to take the Evo win – extending his lead in that class. David Allingham on his In Competition backed Yamaha finished third in the Evo’s. Meanwhile Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie and Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger rounded up the top ten.
