Brands BSB: Seeley on Supersport pole as McConnell crashes

Mar-Train Yamaha, in their final Motorpoint British Supersport outing, grabbed pole position via the efforts of Northern Irishman Alistair Seeley. The wee wizard is 34 points adrift of championship leader Billy McConnell, who crashed out during the session and starts from the ninth row of the grid.

The track was drying lap by lap and that proved to be the case as Seeley snatched pole position with the chequered flag out. He jumped ahead of fellow Carrickfergus rider Glenn Irwin, with the Northern Irish pair excelling in tricky conditions as they have all year long.

Gearlink Kawasaki teammate to Irwin, Luke Hedger, challenged for his debut pole position of the year but fell just short, instead managing to bag his first front row in his rookie supersport year. Floridian James Rispoli, on the Keith Flint backed Traction Control Yamaha, also picked up his best qualifying result of the year. He will front the second row of the grid.

Appleyard Macadam’s Jake Dixon held provisional pole at one stage throughout the half hour session but was shuffled backwards in the closing stages. The Dover lad couldn’t pick up a second Brands Hatch pole position and instead will start from fifth on the grid, 0.027 of a second ahead of Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford.

EVO Champion Alex Olsen impressed once again on his Power Projects Racing Triumph, as he secured seventh on the grid. Title protagonist Graeme Gowland salvaged eighth place on his Smiths Triumph after having a close call on the exit of Surtees. Rounding out the third row is Sam Hornsey. The Anvil Hire TAG Triumph rider tipped of at Graeme Hill whilst holding provisional pole but dropped down the timesheets as the clocked ticked on.

Championship leader Billy McConnell will start the first of the final two supersport races from 26th on the grid after crashing out halfway through the session. The Aussie was 13th at the time before innocuously tucking the front end at Druids.
