Profile Triumph's Luke Stapleford has shocked a lot of people with his resurgence in form this weekend at Brands Hatch. The diminutive rider ended the day a tenth of a second adrift of the fastest-ever Supersport lap; a long way from the four points he picked up from the opening round of 2013.
The Leicestershire rider solely puts it down to himself and the bike 'clicking' over the winter. However, despite being the pacesetter so far, with heavy rain forecast and limited track time in the rain over the winter, Stapleford worries he'll be forced to go 'back to the drawing board' come tomorrow morning.
"We've been working hard over the winter, done a lot of miles, including going to the Daytona 200. Everything is just clicking nicely, we've been trying a few new things and they've gelled straight away. The bike is very similar to last year but we've gone back to square one. We started afresh from the end of last year," said the diminutive rider, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"The bike is staying as it is for tomorrow's qualifying, the only concern is the weather. I've not done a lot of miles in the wet so if it's raining tomorrow morning it's back to the drawing board really.
"The goals are moving forward every time we go out for a session, I'm surprising myself. I've got no goals for the weekend or the year at the moment. If I can be at the front and put up a good fight I'll come away happy."
