Cadwell BSB: Toparis joins Astro JJR Triumph

Double ASBK Supersport Champion Tom Toparis will make his Cadwell Park debut this weekend on the Astro JJR Triumph.

Having claimed the 2019 and 2020 Aussie titles under the mentorship of his crew chief and BSB legend, Glen Richards, Toparis has quite literally flown halfway around the world to partner Rhys Irwin on the Astro JJR Street Triple 765RS for round seven of the Quattro British Supersport Championship.

While Toparis is no stranger to the British championship having made his debut at Donington Park in 2020, a spate of injuries and a long recovery from upper arm surgery has kept the 22-year-old out of the limelight over the past year.

“Just like Glen, every rider that comes to the UK from Australia and New Zealand is here because they’re hungry and really want to be here and I’m no different,” Toparis explained ahead of his BSB debut. “I only arrived last week and I’m so glad the team managed to squeeze in a test day for me at Cadwell and that it was dry.

“It’s a hard track and nothing like anything I’ve seen before. I’m not fast there yet, but at least I know where I’m going now!

“The bike was still on its Thruxton settings, long and low, and felt comfortable right away. The engine is unreal, so torquey. Great on the brakes too and out of the turns, if we can just get it to turn in we’ll be flying.”
