Ben Currie has multiplied his advantage at the head of the 2023 British Supersport Championship standings after strolling to victory at Cadwell Park as closest rival Rhys Irwin suffered a fall.

A third straight win from the Australian, his latest success from pole position carried the strong form he showed at Thruxton to consolidate his status as the rider to beat in this latter half of the 2023 BritishSSP season.

Indeed, Currie was largely unchallenged as he got the hole-shot into Turn 1 to establish an initial lead over Irwin on the Astro JJR Suzuki.

However, in what could prove to be a pivotal moment in this year's title race, Irwin slid off the GSX-R750 at Farm, putting him out of the race and further into arrears of Currie in the overall standings.

Indeed, despite a late push from Luke Stapleford behind, Currie controlled the race to the flag to secure another triumph for himself and the Oxford Products Racing team on the Ducati Panigale V2.

It means his advantage at the top of the table has swelled from 16 points to 39 points with seven races remaining this season, including Monday's second encounter at Cadwell Park.

Skipping between racing in BSB with DAO Racing and his usual steed on BritishSSP, Stapleford might have had a better chance at catching Currie but for his third row starting position, but a strong start helped him on his way to second, chased home by Tom Booth-Amos on the Gearlink Kawasaki.

Tom Toparis followed home in fourth on the Macadam Yamaha, albeit more than eight seconds from the lead, while Richard Cooper - having started 12th - fought his way back to fifth place.
