Donington BSB: Mackenzie marks retirement with last-to-first win

Taylor MKackenzie took at least £1000 from Bathams BMW team boss Michael Rutter with his Pirelli National Superstock last-to-first win at Donington Park and then announced his retirement from racing.

After a difficult Saturday, Mackenzie scorched from the back row to the winner's circle on the same day brother Tarran stepped closer to the BSB title.

"Me and Taz have never actually won a race on the same day before. I spoke to the team on Thursday and I am going to retire at end of this year so I wanted to go out with a bang," said Mackenzie, speaking at the track.

"I have found it really tough over the last few years. Away from the track, you wouldn't believe how much stress and how ill I have made myself at points to go racing.

"It's something I love doing and I love moments like this but there are a lot more hard times than good for me, and I just wanted to prove to everyone I can ride a bike. The team put everything right today and on my day I can still pedal around alright.

"Huge thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years, Bathams have been amazing this year and Michael bet me £500 I wouldn't be in the top ten and a grand I wouldn't be on the podium. We didn't mention a win bonus. Thank you, thank you to everyone."
