Buildbase Suzuki’s Billy McConnell dominated proceedings in today’s Superstock 1000 double-header race, taking two wins and the championship lead.
He, 2015 Superstock 1000 champion Josh Elliot and Andy Reid stormed off into the distance in race one – leaving the pack trailing in their wake as the leaders pulled out two seconds in just two laps.
Morello Kawasaki’s Elliot made a move on the inside of McConnell heading into Redgate, but the former British Supersport champion was quick to fight his way back to the front and take control of the race.
Reid had nearly closed the distance to the two front-men with a comfortable gap behind him, but the EHA Racing Aprilia man ended any hope of an almost-assured podium finish with a crash at the Old Hairpin on lap eight.
McConnell was all but untouchable as he pulled out nearly six seconds over Elliot at the chequered flag, with series returnee and 2012 champ Keith Farmer on the Tyco BMW taking third nearly 10 seconds off the win.
Race two was nearly a carbon copy of the first as the Australian cleared off after passing Elliot early on, stretching a three-second lead on lap nine.
Danger-man Farmer commenced a chase of McConnell shortly thereafter, following a pass on Elliot at the Melbourne hairpin, but red flags were waved on lap 10 of 13 and a result was declared.
McConnell crossed the line 2.744s ahead of Farmer, with Elliot just 1.390s further back on the final step of the podium.
