Eunan McGlinchey took victory by a millimeter in the first ever Dickies British Junior Supersport championship race after a race-long battle with a swarm of Kawasakis.
The Team #109 Kawasaki rider shot from fifth on the grid to the front of a tenacious pack of youngsters to lead the first lap from pole-sitter FS-3 Racing’s Matt Bower and Team XG Racing’s Kade Verwey.
But Verwey sliced his way to the front before McGlinchey made a move up the inside at the Foggy Esses on lap three, only to be pushed back as Verwey powered ahead once again.
SymCirrus Motorsport’s Edmund Best, fresh off a season in the Motostar Moto 3 class, was the next to charge to the front as he slipstreamed from fourth to first down the Dunlop Straight, but McGlinchey went for another pass at the Melbourne hairpin to take the lead.
As the teens emerged from Goddard’s for the final time, it was Best, McGlinchey and Verwey brothers Luke and Kade weaving across the track to find the best way through.
But McGlinchey was the first to the chequered flag as he beat Best, unable to live up to his name yesterday, by a minuscule 0.004s, with Kade Verwey third across the line just 0.106s further adrift.
