CF Motorsport’s Kyle Ryde topped the Motorpoint British Supersport free practice time sheets by a quarter of a second at a cloudy Donington Park.
The teenage debutant has clearly adapted to his new machinery well, fighting off title favourite Glenn Irwin to top spot. Irwin, riding his Gearlink Kawasaki, came close to stealing provisional pole from Ryde but traffic in the final sectors cost him dearly.
Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford ended the session third fastest, under half a second behind top spot. Jake Dixon, making his debut with the Smiths Racing squad, ended his session in the gravel trap at Redgate after jumping up to fourth quickest.
Sam Hornsey, also making his debut but for the Profile Triumph team, is fifth quickest going in to tomorrow’s qualifying session. The Shropshire rider is 0.594 of a second off of the pace.
Team Traction Control’s Andy Reid jumped up to sixth quickest with the chequered flag out. The Superstock 600 runner-up from last year climbed above British Supersport returnee Ben Wilson and his Gearlink Kawasaki.
Former World Championship competitor Danny Webb took eighth place with his last lap. The Appleyard Macadam rider got the better of the fastest EVO rider, Haribo Triumph’s Joe Collier, by under a tenth of a second.
Rounding out the Supersport top ten was CDH Racing’s Dean Hipwell and Appleyard Macadam’s Harry Hartley.
