Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford grabbed the first Motorpoint British Supersport pole of the season, after jumping ahead of teenage talent Kyle Ryde in the final minutes.
CF Motorsport’s Ryde led the pack in to qualifying with the fastest time in free practice and set the early pace at an overcast Donington Park.
However, with five minutes remaining, Stapleford took provisional pole away from the reigning Superstock 600 champion.
Ryde looked to reply immediately with the fastest opening three sectors of the session but the lap faded away from the Foggy Esses to the finish line, allowing Stapleford to hold on to top spot.
Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin held the final front row spot with the chequered flag out but Smiths Triumph’s Jake Dixon snatched it away from the Northern Irishman with his final lap.
Dixon appeared to be struggling to find a lap good enough for the front row but by posting the fastest final sector of the session, he was able to claw back time on Irwin and grab third place on the grid.
Profile Triumph’s Sam Hornsey put a strong run together in the middle of the session, which secured him fifth spot on the grid ahead of Traction Control’s James Rispoli.
Heading the third row of the grid is Northern Irishman Andy Reid. The Traction Control rider is 0.843 of a second adrift of pole.
Rounding out the third row of the grid is the fastest EVO rider, Joe Collier aboard his Haribo Starmix Triumph, and Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson, who appears to be struggling on his return to the class.
