Donington BSB: Supersport pole for Skinner

Rory Skinner's impressive start to the Quattro British Supersport Championship season continued on Saturday as he claimed pole position for the afternoon's 20-lap race at Donington this morning.

Comfortably quickest in free practice on Friday, the Tyser Yamaha rider never looked like being headed during the 25-minute qualifying session and at one stage was more than three quarters of a second quicker than his nearest rival.

The gap did come down as the session wore on but a time of 1'08.358s gave him a comfortable advantage of 0.311s over second placed Bradley Perie on his Diamond H Racing Yamaha with former championship runner up James Westmoreland rounding out the front row on the Gearlink Kawasaki.

Australian newcomer to the series Tom Toparis was one of the biggest improvers in qualifying as he shaved off more than a second from his Friday time to slot into fourth, one place ahead of the quickest GP2 Cup rider, Alastair Seeley (ABM Triumph).

Series returnee Ben Currie took sixth on the second Gearlink Kawasaki with last year's title runner-up Brad Jones back in seventh, some 0.883s behind team-mate Skinner. Charlie Nesbitt took eighth on the second ABM Triumph with Harry Truelove and Jack Scott completing the top ten, the latter the third quicker GP2 competitor.
