Tsingtao Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan clinched his third Pirelli National Superstock 1000 win in emphatic style, taking the chequered flag 9.9 seconds clear of the chasing pack.
Buchan got the holeshot from pole position and never came under pressure. He furthered his advantage by half a second every lap, despite having reigning champion Hudson Kennaugh trying to stay with him. The South African crashed out at the Hairpin on lap six, however, whilst trying to keep up with Buchan.
Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson held on to second place in the early running before David Johnson and Adam Jenkinson came storming through. Johnson broke clear and Jenkinson tried to go with the Aussie but he crashed out at the Scotsman, handing third back to Buildbase BMW's Jackson.
After a poor start, Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran recovered to catch and then pass Jackson at half race distance. The pair began chasing down Johnson for second place, before the trio came together with three laps remaining.
Jackson dived underneath both O’Halloran and Johnson at the Hairpin before running wide with two laps remaining, but the Lincoln teenager made up for his earlier mistake on the last lap with a brave move under the inside of Johnson. Buchan came through on his back wheel to claim victory ahead of Jackson, who hung on to claim second, his first podium of the year.
PR Kawasaki’s David Johnson beat Jason O’Halloran by just 0.097 of a second to claim third. Dominic Usher got the better of ICE Kawasaki’s Daniel Johnson and Swedish rider Filip Backlund to take fifth, his career best result in the Superstock 1000 championship.
BMW’s Jimmy Storrar was the best of the local hopes in eighth after Michael Robertson was taken out of podium contention by an errant Joe Burns on the fourth lap of the race. Be Wiser Kawasaki’s Josh Day and Marshall Neill rounded out the top ten
