Knockhill BSB: Currie snatches first Supersport pole of 2018

Gearlink Kawasaki's Ben Currie bagged his maiden Dickies British Supersport pole position of the year after finally beating Jack Kennedy to the top spot.

The German-born Australian, who currently sits 54 points off the top spot in the championship, beat his title rival in this morning's qualifying session by nearly a tenth of a second as he went under the existing class lap record.

Currie set a 49.102s lap mid-way through the 30-minute session, over four tenths of a second faster than Jake Dixon's 2015 lap record, a 49.525.

He shot to the front in the opening few laps, but just five minutes in Kennedy was back in front as he looked to be on for his fifth straight pole position.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, however, Currie laid down the 49.1s lap that ultimately gave him pole. And while the Integro Yamaha rider tried his best in the closing stages, he couldn't quite hold on to extend his qualifying streak and instead had to settle for second on the grid.

Currie's team-mate James Westmoreland will start from the final front row spot after qualifying a distant 0.352s off the top two, while Everquip Racing men Bjorn Estment and James Rispoli will sandwich EHA Racing's David Allingham on the second row.
