Jordan Racing’s Jordan Weaving was able to hold off the charge from Redline KTM’s Joe Irving to take a tight Motul British Motostar win at Knockhill, and extends his Moto3 championship lead to 20 points.
FPW Racing’s Jayson Uribe completed the Moto3 rostrum and finished third overall. Banks Racing’s Edward Rendall was the victor in the 125 class, with E3 Motorsports Arnie Shelton and Spike Racing’s Elliot Lodge rounding off the top three in that category.
Weaving had a great start and catapulted his Moto3 bike into the lead, followed by Uribe and Rendall. Pole-setter Joe Irving had to start from pit lane because a technical problem prevented him from getting to the number one spot on the starting grid. But the 16-year old powered through to get up to eighth by the second lap.
RS Racing’s Georgina Polden crashed on the first lap, but was not the only rider to succumb to the Fife track as Taylor and Alonso also fell, as spots of rain started to all on the circuit. Taz Taylor was progressing well up the field but crashed coming out of Taylors on lap five.
Meanwhile at the top of the pack Irving was making waves out on the track and pushed his Moto3 machine up to third, just behind Hobson, just as the dark clouds moved away from the circuit.
With 12 laps remaining it turned into a three-way fight for the top spot on the rostrum, between Weaving, Uribe and Irving. But by lap 11 Irving got the better of the American to go into second at Taylor’s Hairpin and had his eyes firmly set of the leading South African.
With five laps remaining Weaving and Irving had a four second advantage over Uribe with the two Moto3 bikes, neck and neck but they got caught up in back markers, with Weaving having the slight edge, and stormed ahead to take the win.
“The race started off well and I got into a good rhythm, then I lost the rhythm, but I led the whole way, and I did feel the pressure being at the front. But I just want to say thank you to my team for all their hard work this weekend, but it was a great win,” said Weaving, at the track.
