Knockhill BSB: Mossey takes dramatic Supersport win

Profile Triumph’s Luke Mossey stormed to his second career Motorpoint British Supersport win after a brawling encounter with teammate Luke Stapleford and championship leader Billy McConnell.

Smiths Triumph’s Graeme Gowland got the holeshot as he aimed for a fourth successive win but his race ended after just two corners. The Northumbrian tucked the front whilst pushing at the front of the race, ending his recent dominance of the Supersport class.

Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford took the lead as a result and began to battle with teammate Mossey for the race lead. Meanwhile, Smiths Triumph’s McConnell began fighting his way through the pack, passing Jake Dixon and then Luke Jones.

The battling trio of Stapleford, McConnell and Mossey broke away from the rest of the field and were interchanging positions with Mossey eventually coming out on top after Stapleford and McConnell collided together.

Stapleford ran wide into the Hairpin allowing Mossey to come through, but McConnell also tried to squeeze through. The pair came together as Stapleford tried to close the door, which allowed Mossey to pull out two seconds at the front of the race.

The Cambridgeshire rider held on for the remaining laps to clinch the win by 2.3 seconds. McConnell fought off Stapleford for second, which means he now holds a 41 point lead over Graeme Gowland as the Supersport paddock leaves Scotland. Stapleford was able to get the better of Appleyard Macadam’s Jake Dixon for third place in the closing laps, after the Dover teenager applied considerable pressure.

Mar-Train Yamaha’s Alistair Seeley came through in fifth place, ending a disappointing weekend for the Northern Irishman. Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin came through ahead of Luke Jones to take sixth.

Appleyard Macadam’s Bjorn Estment matched his best result of the year in eighth, with Dean Hipwell and Alex Olsen rounding out the top ten.
