Smiths Triumph’s Graeme Gowland clinched his third Motorpoint British Supersport win on the bounce in a red flagged sprint race because of rain.
Gowland got the holeshot and quickly opened out over a second on Appleyard Macadam’s Jake Dixon, who stormed through from the second row of the grid to settle into second. Gowland’s Smiths Triumph teammate, Billy McConnell, quickly moved past Dixon on the first lap to take second as he saw the Northumbrian edge clear at the front.
Rain was reported in pit lane after just five laps but that didn’t halt the progress of Luke Jones and Luke Stapleford, who both moved past Dixon. Stapleford set the fastest lap of the race as he made up for a poor start from the front row of the grid, chasing down and then passing Luke Jones for third place.
Aussie McConnell began to pull in a tenth of a second every lap on Gowland but as the rain became heavier, McConnell backed off. This allowed Gowland to further his advantage and hold a two second lead as the red flag came out due to the traditional Knockhill rain becoming too heavy.
McConnell took second place, his sixth podium on the bounce but saw his championship lead diminish to 21 points. Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford claimed third place, his second Supersport podium of his career, despite continued pressure from Luke Jones in the final laps.
Appleyard Macadam’s Jake Dixon took fifth place, his best result of the year, ahead of a struggling Alistair Seeley. Mar-Train Yamaha’s Seeley now drops 41 points adrift of McConnell at the top of the championship.
Luke Mossey got the better of Sam Hornsey and Taylor Mackenzie to take seventh, with Glenn Irwin rounding out the top ten after a coming together with Sam Hornsey at half race distance.
