Came BPT Yamaha’s James Westmoreland will sit on pole position for this afternoon’s Motorpoint British Supersport race after beating title rival, Andy Reid, to top spot by 0.051 of a second.
The pair took turns at topping the time sheets but eventually with two minutes remaining, Westmoreland jumped to the top and remained there. He went faster again with his last lap but it ended up being cancelled.
Rounding out the front row on his return to the British Supersport championship is Lee Johnston. The Northern Irishman is turning his hand to short circuit racing this weekend, and is doing so quite successfully too so far.
Fronting the second row of the grid is hometown boy Matt Paulo. The Edinburgh University student has completed hundreds and hundreds of lap around the Knockhill circuit and put all that experience to good use with his best qualifying of the year.
Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger ended up fifth on the grid, five thousandths of a second behind Paulo, but similarly only 0.054 of a second ahead of Ross Twyman in sixth.
Pacedays Yamaha’s Ben Currie heads up row three for this evening’s sprint race, and he is joined on the third row of the grid by Mason Law and Luke Jones.
Starting from the very last row of the grid will be WD40 Kawasaki’s Tarran Mackenzie after a total rebuild over night resulted in his clutch slipping in qualifying. Despite fitting a new clutch during the session, the issue wasn’t resolved and Mackenzie ended up at the back of the grid.
