Tsingtao Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan eased to his second Pirelli National Superstock 1000 win of the year, taking the chequered flag six seconds ahead of the chasing pack.
The Chinese beer sponsored rider took the holeshot from pole position, emphatically riding around the outside of Jason O’Halloran. However, his charge was halted momentarily after the safety car was deployed following a crash at Hizzys on the first lap. Once the race was restarted Buchan posted a new lap record on his way to clinching another comfortable victory.
Buchan leads the championship with a maximum 50 points with Aussie Jason O'Halloran ten points behind, having picked up two second places from the opening two rounds.
Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran collected second place ahead of PR Racing Kawasaki’s David Johnson on his return to the Superstock 1000 championship. The pair came under pressure from Direct CCTV Kawasaki’s Adam Jenkinson for the duration of the race but the Mancunian couldn’t fight past the Aussies ahead of him.
Direct CCTV’s Victor Cox was closing in on the battling trio and caught up to them before he ran on at Island Bend. The Vicar jumped off before getting to the tyre wall but collided with the safety barrier at some speed causing the red flag to be brought out. Cox was declared conscious but has been taken to the medical centre for further checks.
Padgetts Racing’s Glen Richards came through to take fifth place after a race long battle with Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson and ICE Kawasaki’s Danny Johnson. SMT Racing’s Filip Backlund finished in eighth place, a commendable finish for the Swede who is struggling with an ankle injury.
Rounding out the top ten was the diminutive Northern Irishman Lee Johnstone and the reigning Superstock 1000 champion, Hudson Kennaugh on his Linxcel backed BMW.
