Oulton BSB: Guiver charges back in Ducati Cup contention

Rob Guiver charged back into contention to take the Ducati TriOption Cup with a determined seventh winning ride on Sunday afternoon as he avenged the bitter disappointment of being sidelined by a machine issue the previous day.

He headed off Robbie Brown with Leon Morris third, enough to keep him in the lead in the title stakes, though by only eight points over Guiver.

Neary started from pole, having set the fastest lap in Saturday’s race, in his vain pursuit on Morris while Guiver who had been sidelined by a front brake problem in that race charged through from the third row but it was Morris who made the running on the opening lap.

Guiver was charging on hard and well and just into the second lap he took Neary for third place adrift of Brown and Morris who were trading places at the front of the pack. Brown was setting a frantic pace out front while Morris was riding hard to stay in contention as Neary took over in third from Guiver.

There was little between the leading quartet but Louis Dawson bettered the lap record as he closed in on them while out front Brown was easing a little further clear but Neary and Guiver traded places as they squabble over third place.

Guiver was upping the pace as he shook off the close attentions of Neary and then set his sights on reeling in Morris and then attacking Brown for the lead, making it stick on the penultimate lap, then backmarkers were encountered with Morris and Neary nudging each other as they went through.

Out front though Guiver was having no worries as he took the victory 1.732secs ahead of Brown, Morris and Neary with Dawson fifth from Phil Atkinson.
