Smiths Triumph’s Billy McConnell battled to his third consecutive Motorpoint British Supersport at Oulton Park after fighting off the advances of his teammate Graeme Gowland on the final lap.
Five riders battled it out for the lead with all five having their turn at front. At half race distance Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford was leading before a big blow up on the run down to Hizzys Chicane saw him bow out of the race.
McConnell took advantage of the Stapleford incident, buying himself a second lead as the laps began to count down. Gowland moved through ahead of Mossey and started to reel in his teammate. On the last lap he was eight tenths behind but set the fastest lap of the race in order to get himself on to the tail of McConnell.
The pair were side by side on the brakes in Lodge on the final lap but McConnell slammed the door on Gowland and despite the Northumberland rider’s best efforts to draft past McConnell on the run to the line, the Adelaide ride held on to claim the win by under a tenth of a second. With the victory, his third on the bounce at Oulton Park, he reclaims the championship lead by four points over Gowland.
Glenn Irwin made a last ditch effort to take third place away from Luke Mossey but tucked the front end of his Gearlink Kawasaki at Lodge on the last lap whilst trying to grab third place. Appleyard Macadam’s Jake Dixon came through five seconds back of Mossey in fourth, just ahead of the battered and bruised Alistair Seeley after his qualifying off.
Acumen Industrial Services Triumph’s Luke Jones battled back through to sixth place after running on at Hizzy’s Chicane on the first lap. Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger got the better of Taylor Mackenzie to claim seventh , with Floridian James Rispoli and Sam Hornsey rounding out the top ten.
