Bradley Perie grabbed his first ever Quattro Group British Supersport Championship victory at Oulton Park on Sunday after a race long battle with Jack Kennedy (DB Race Services Kawasaki).
Perie made his move on the last corner of the last lap to come out on top by a tenth from Kennedy with Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) coming through to claim a fine third.
Korie McGreevy (Mar-Train Racing Yamaha) grabbed the lead on the opening lap from Perie, Kennedy and Johnston but Perie took over a lap later with Kennedy quickly following him by McGreevy, the gap between the leading quartet less than three quarters of a second.
A quick lap saw McGreevy fight back and push Kennedy back to third on lap four and further back Ben Currie (Gearlink Kawasaki) was up to fifth having overhauled the leading GP2 Cup machine of Charlie Nesbitt (RS Racing Kalex).
Perie was continuing to lead the way at the head of the field but Kennedy was back into second on lap six and only a tenth adrift, a gap that had shrunk even further next time around.
At half race distance, the front four had closed up once more with Johnston in fourth half a second behind race leader Perie although Currie was now the fastest man on track in fifth.
As the race entered the second half, Kennedy moved into the lead for the first time and on lap eight Johnston moved into third as fellow Yamaha rider McGreevy went out.
The race had now split into two groups of two with Kennedy and Perie disputing the lead and Johnston now contesting the final podium position with Currie, the Kawasaki man having closed right onto the rear wheel of the Yamaha man. Indeed, on lap ten he moved ahead with Nesbitt now also part of the battle.
There was still little to choose between Kennedy and Perie as they pulled some four seconds clear of Currie and as they went into their final lap there was still only a tenth of a second between them.
However, on this occasion it was Perie who came out on top with a last gasp move up the inside of Kennedy at Lodge on the final lap, the duo ending the weekend with a first and second place apiece.
There was change in the closing stages for third too as Johnston got the better of Currie and with Nesbitt not too far behind, he comfortably claimed the top honours in the GP2 Cup class.
Harry Truelove (Truelove Brothers Racing Yamaha), Mason Law (Spiritmoto Corsa), Jack Scott (JJ Racing Harris) and the Dynavolt Triumph duo of Brandon Paasch and Kyle Smith completed the top ten, Law and Scott joining Nesbitt on the GP2 podium.
