Redline KTM’s Joe Irving dominated the Motul British Motostar class and came away with a convincing victory at a very wet Oulton Park, after leading from the first corner on the opening lap.
With 25 points in the Moto3 class it now means that Irving closes the gap at the top of the table by 14 points, from leader Jordan Weaving. The South African still heads the class, but could only manage second, ahead of Jayson Uribe.
The pair tousled on the final lap and were touching elbows, and even though the American held on to second for the majority of the race, he was pipped to the post at Deer Leap by Weaving.
Uribe had to settle for the third step on the Moto3 rostrum, but the victor in the 125 class went to Banks Racing’s Edward Rendell. The Chelmsford rider was second overall, but was the quickest 125 rider out on the circuit, and increased his lead in that category.
“I am starting to make a habit of winning. I was strong in the wet warm-up session and I was feeling strong this weekend, so I was confident going into the race and wanted to do well. So a win is even better,” said Irving, at the track.
There were podium debuts for Bennett’s backed Josh Owens, who made it on to the second step of the 125 rostrum, with FPW Racing’s Daniel Hermansson finishing third in the class, to bag his first podium of the year too.
But many riders succumbed to the wet weather conditions. Race debutant Zak Corderoy was progressing well, but crashed at Hizzy’s, with Charlie Nesbitt quickly following suit. Hizzy's appeared the place to fall, as Slotten and Taz Taylor also tumbled in exactly the same spot.
