Silverstone BSB: Superstock 1000 victory for Olsen

Alex Olsen powered to victory in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 scrap today after fending off former champs Taylor Mackenzie and Richard Cooper.

The Team IMR BMW man found his way to the front after the leading trio had stretched a gap, and never looked back as he scorched to the win – but it wasn’t a smooth start for any of them.

While Buildbase Suzuki’s Cooper snatched an early advantage ahead of Mackenzie and Olsen, the race was brought to a halt with red flags just a couple of laps in.

Paul McClung went flying as Barry Teasdale collected him on the way off the track at Copse, but the two were both believed to be conscious as action went into a short delay.

On the restart, Cooper grabbed the holeshot once again and just as Bathams Racing rider Mackenzie took the lead at the front, Leon Jeacock shunted Chrissy Rouse off the circuit as the two both went down at the outside of Brooklands.

Towards the front, Olsen was having a stab at Cooper for second place, and the Team IMR rider found a way through at Copse at the start of lap five before continuing to lever Mackenzie aside and hit the lead.

And after stretching a gap of 1.3sec, Olsen held on to take victory over Mackenzie and Cooper.
