Smiths Triumph’s Graeme Gowland eased to his first ever Motorpoint British Supersport double victory, taking a lights to flag win by four seconds. Drama commenced on the warm-up lap as Mar-Train Yamaha’s Alistair Seeley crashed out on the warm-up lap, leaving a spare spot on the front row of the gird.
Gowland took the holeshot from pole position and came under no pressure throughout the 15 lap event. The former Spanish Supersport champion increased his advantage lap by lap, before taking the flag to confirm the double win, and a fourth consecutive British Supersport win for the Smiths Triumph outfit.
Gowland now lies second in the championship, 26 points adrift of McConnell at the top of the table, who increased his advantage after Seeley crashed out before the race got under way.
Australian McConnell came through to take second place, despite coming under pressure from Luke Jones throughout the race. The Aussie rolled around the outside of Jones at the end of back straight with six laps remaining, making sure Jones couldn’t come back at the Adelaide rider.
Profile Triumph’s Luke Mossey clinched third place after a last lap pass on Luke Jones. Acumen Triumph’s Jones was then forced back to fifth place when Luke Stapleford came past. The Hereford rider tried to reply with a move of his own but crashed out, handing fourth to Stapleford.
Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie clinched his best result of the year in fifth place, getting the better of an injured Glenn Irwin and Sam Hornsey. Appleyard Macadam’s Jake Dixon came through from fifteenth on the grid to take eighth place ahead of Callan Cooper and Dean Hipwell.
