Snetterton BSB: Kennaugh bags first Stock 1000 win of the year

Linxcel Trik Moto Racing’s Hudson Kennaugh snatched his first Pirelli National Superstock 1000 win of the year, from title challenger, Tsingtao’s Danny Buchan, at Snetterton this afternoon.

The race was red-flagged after oil was spilled out on the track, and at the re-start it turned into a six lap dash. Buchan was leading before the race was halted, but a determined performance from Kennaugh was enough to crown him the victor today, with Buchan and SMT Racing’s Filip Backlund taking the final steps on the rostrum.

Initially Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran took the holeshot from Buchan, as the championship leader went wide at Montreal allowing Jenkinson and Jackson to go on ahead. Jenkinson was then able to go into the lead at Agostini.

On lap two Buchan went into first from Jenkinson, O’Halloran and last years champ, Kennaugh. On lap three Buchan edged on ahead and had half a second lead over Jenkinson.

Elsewhere Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson overtook O’Halloran to get fourth with ten laps remaining. MWR’s James Egan crashed along with RAF Reserves Honda’s Conor Cummins at Palmer bringing out the yellow flags and safety car on lap six, after an engine blow out by Jones-Dorling’s Ashley Beech.

The safety car was out for six laps, but then the red flags appeared as oil was still bring cleared from the circuit, and a re-start was swiftly required, Before the race was halted the lap records continued to tumble, and it was the tall Essex lad – Buchan who kept smashing the lap record, that was held by Richard Cooper.

In the end the Tsingtao rider clocked a 1’50.648, setting a new lap record at the 300 track.

After the re-start Kennaugh overtook Buchan just before the Bentley straight, on the third of six laps and in doing so set a new lap record. The duelling duo had a two second lead overt Backlund, Elliott and Jenkinson. Jackson was in fifth and was starting to close the gap on Elliott and in doing so clocked a new lap record – a 1’50.930, but he was still unable to get the better of Elliott.

On the final lap Buchan was still in second, but upped the pace and broke the lap record set by Jackson a few seconds previously, but made a mistake allowing Kennaugh to go safely ahead for his first win of the year.

Jackson went wide on the final turn and ended the race in sixth, just behind O’Halloran and Elliott. Day, Neill and Cox rounded up the top ten.
