Snetterton BSB: Mackenzie takes sodden Supersport pole

WD40 Kawasaki’s Tarran Mackenzie clinched Motorpoint British Supersport pole by over one and a half seconds, after heavy rain massively effected the session.

Mackenzie was out on track early with the rain falling lightly. With just his third lap he jumped to the top of the time sheets with a 2’10.488, which wasn’t to be bettered for the remainder of the session.

Came BPT Yamaha’s Joe Francis got closest to the diminutive Scotsman, after setting a 2’11.946 also with his third lap of the session.

Another man who avoided the torrential rain that came five minutes into the session was Tommy Philp. The Slough man threw up a real surprise to bag his debut British Supersport front row on his Draper Racing machine.

Reigning champion Luke Stapleford was the fastest man through the heavy rain, managing to jump up to fourth place after missing out on the window of opportunity. On his wildcard return, Stapleford will be joined on the second row of the grid by another couple of surprises, in the form of Ryan Dixon and Josh Daley

Both setting their career best British Supersport qualifying, Dixon will sit fifth on the gird with Daley a further place behind in sixth.

CF Motorsport’s Ben Currie will sit at the front of the third row of the grid, hoping to replicate his wet weather performance at Knockhill.

Joining the German born Aussie on the third row of the grid will be Northern Irishman David Allingham, on his EHA Racing Yamaha, and Matt Truelove, aboard his Astro-TT Yamaha.

Potential race winners can be found all the way back on row four, as championship leader James Westmoreland will sit alongside the Northern Irish duo of Andrew Irwin and Lee Johnstone.
