Smiths Triumph’s Billy McConnell was the fastest Motorpoint British Supersport rider at the end of the first day of free practice sessions at the Snetterton 300 circuit. The Aussie was able to out-pace MarTrain’s Alastair Seeley to take the accolade as the quickest racer this afternoon.
In the second session of the day McConnell had already gone faster than the best time set this morning by Seeley by two tenths - on only his fifth rotation of the track. Only for the wee wizard of Carrickfergus to pull his way back to the top of the timesheets with a 1’52.019 – but that was not to last and McConnell ended up being the first and only rider to lap in the 1’51’s and his time of 1’51.821 was good enough to place him on the provisional pole position.
Elsewhere Smiths Triumph’s Graeme Gowland rounded off the top three, in a repeat of this morning’s free practice outing. The Hexham rider did better his time from the first session by six tenths but could not out pace the bikes of McConnell and Seeley. Acumen’s Luke Jones and Techcare/Profile’s Luke Mossey complete the top five.
There were a few crashes during the 30 minute outing. Tyco Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie fell at Riches whilst four fastest overall. True Heroes Racing’s Dan Helyer also succumbed to the gravel – but was declared OK at the track side. The Appleyard/Macadam machine of Jake Dixon also ended up in the grass, but this time at Oggies, quickly followed by Intek Adhesives Josh Daley.
