Snetterton BSB: Shoubridge scores dominant Ducati Cup double

Rich Energy’s David Shoubridge secured double success in the Ducati TripOptions Cup at Snetterton last weekend.

Despite a chaotic start to Saturday’s race - which saw him almost miss the grid - Shoubridge launched from pole to secure the victory in both the weekend’s clashes - the first with an eight-second lead.

Motorcycle Race Parts’ Tom Tunstall and Q-Oil Treatments / Unique Motorsport’s Phillip Atkinson completed the podium celebrations with their own doubles, in second and third respectively, with Tunstall recovering through the pack from tenth on the grid before claiming the runner-up spot.

“Win number eight!” Shoubridge said on Saturday. “What a chaotic race from the start. We had wet knee sliders on from the previous session in qualifying and I only took them out with moments to go and forgot to put the dry ones on. I was running up and down the grid to get some sliders.

“Big thanks to the Buildbase Suzuki boys because they found me a knee slider with just moments to go. I ran up to the 30 second board and I think my dad was just about to push the bike of the grid!

“So, a chaotic start but got my head down and tried to find some pace. The bike setup didn’t feel too great, and the conditions were a bit sketchy. The track was a bit green, and not a lot of grip in places. But we stuck our head down, tried to manage the gap, and did the best we could. Number one, well chuffed with that.

“It’s nice to get back to the front and open up a bit of a lead in front of the championship,” he explained after Sunday’s double win. “It’s pretty sad when you’re going home and dropping points, but we’ve got everything to be happy about coming away from this weekend.

“The bike’s feeling really good. Ultimately my team have put together such a good bike, we just keep building and building and going better and better each time. Long may it continue.

“We’ve got two rounds left, four races to go, and it’s in our hands. We’ve got one finger on the championship trophy now and hopefully we’ll have our hand on it by the last round.”
