Snetterton BSB: Skinner and Strudwick split British Talent Cup

Rory Skinner and Thomas Strudwick shared the British Talent Cup spoils while the later retook the points lead, leaving the title fight wide open as the series heads into its second half of 2018.

Former CEV Moto3 rider Skinner beat Max Cook by less than 0.050s in race one, before Cook crashed out of the lead in race two and then Skinner followed him with a spill of his own, leaving Strudwick to pick up the win.

Reigning Motostar Standard champion Cook got the best start in Saturday’s 14-lapper, leading Skinner and Strudwick as the trio began to break away, but Skinner soon made a move for the lead as he and Cook gapped Strudwick.

Strudwick settled into a lone third, and while Cook looked to be on for his second win of the year, Skinner drafted past him on the Senna Straight and snatched victory by just 0.040s.

Cook again nabbed the holeshot in Sunday morning’s race, but the 15-year-old lost the front at Murray’s before even completing a lap, leaving Skinner to take the lead.

But after the Scotsman had pulled a four-second gap over the chasing pack, he crashed out and threw away another win, allowing Strudwick to power ahead and take victory by nearly three seconds.

Following a three-way battle for the final podium spots, Josh Whatley slipstreamed ahead of Brian Hart to take second by just 0.065s.
